Winery with tasting room

A winery with a shop and a tasting area near Starozagorski Mineralni Bani. The building is low, freely placed on a plot of 23.6 decares, with a height of up to 10 m.

Concept

The reinforced concrete roof structure follows and interprets the relief. The roof is planted and carries a photovoltaic installation, and the detailing is restrained. This gives the complex a contemporary and recognisable image.

The form of the roof derives from the geographical position of the site. Its leading lines correspond to the directions of sunrise and sunset at the summer solstice on 21 June, the longest day of the year. Wine has an old tradition in these lands, and the finds in Sredna Gora show that the ancients honoured the solstices and the equinoxes. The winery continues this connection.

Siting

The building is in the southernmost part of the plot. It makes use of the large level difference of the terrain: from the north and west it is partly sunk into the ground, and from the east, south and south-west it is accessible. All the entrances are there as well.

Function

The main level holds production: reception and processing of grapes, fermentation, wine storage, a laboratory, a barrel room and a store for finished products with a loading ramp. On the same level, with two entrances from the east and from the west, is the enoteca with demonstration spaces. On the lower level is the shop, with a separate entrance for visitors.
